The following process proved successful in 2007 and 2008 and will be followed in 2009

Stage 2 – Application

Hint – under Brief Summary of proposed business we suggest that promoters

  1. Give details of your proposed product/service
  2. Outline any development work undertaken on your proposed product/service
  3. Detail any market research undertaken on your proposed product/service e.g. size of markets, market segment, competitors, expected market share, distribution etc

Closing date for application - 16th March 2009

 
Applicants who have not undertaken any development or research activity should outline their idea and business concept and pay particular attention to their Unique Selling Proposition, Customer Need, Competition, Route to Market. Some key financial indicators should also be provided.

The EAC Manager will be available to meet with prospective candidates for a confidential review of their application prior to the closing date for applications.

Stage 3 – Profile (online)

Shortlisted candicates will be will be asked to complete an online profile evaluation in advance of the interview.  This is undertaken by Ann McKeon, Profiles at Work based in Killaloe.

Stage 4 – Interview

Short listed applicants will be interviewed - these will take place in the 2nd week of March 2009.

At the interview stage (there will be only one interview) candidates will be asked to make a presentation on their business concept.

Stage 5 – Decision and follow-up

All candidates will receive a copy of their individual profile/evaluation and feedback on the interview when the selection process is finished.

The online profiling will also be used in conjuction with a LEAP Training Needs Analysis to develop tailored training and development plans for the successful participants. .

Participant Profile

It was anticipated that the following profiles would emerge as successful candidates.

  1. Experienced managers with international experience (maybe MNC) with strong technical idea or business concept
  2. Recent graduates with entrepreneurial ability to develop a knowledge based business
  3. A serial entrepreneur (perhaps someone who has developed a business which subsequently failed but has learned from mistakes

 

Educational Attainment

Applicants, who should not previously have participated in a programme of this kind, will be required to have attained at least a level 7 (ordinary level degree) qualification to qualify to join the programme.    High calibre applicants with relevant experience who do not hold the necessary minimum education qualifications may be facilitated on the programme.
